Tivoli Corner Opening in 2017
With work well underway, the exciting new addition to Tivoli Gardens – Tivoli Corner – is due to open in November 2017. Situated squarely on two of Copenhagen’s busiest streets in Tivoli’s northwesterly corner, the building comprises 5,300m2 of retail and restaurant space plus 2,000m2 of hotel space. In addition there will be an Illums Boliguhus design shop as well as two other outlets.
The remaining space will be added to Tivoli’s luxurious Nimb Hotel for new rooms and an exquisite roof top terrace. Designed by New York architects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, the new building will create a dynamic transition from city to park with the outer facade reflecting the urbanity of modern Copenhagen and the inner more in keeping with Tivoli’s iconic period entrance and 1874 Chinese theater.
A New Corner for the Nimb Hotel
As part of the Tivoli Corner expansion, the award-winning Nimb Hotel, which is grandly housed in Tivoli’s spectacular Arabian Palace, will add 21 luxurious rooms with balconies overlooking Tivoli Gardens to the property.
Accessed through the main hotel, the rooms will be decorated in a contemporary style combining simple Nordic modern design with unique artifacts and antiques. In addition, Nimb Hotel guests will also benefit from a spectacular new rooftop terrace, restaurant and recreation area with Copenhagen’s first outdoor heated pool. In line with Tivoli Corner, the new rooms and rooftop will open in late 2017. In addition to its riveting rides, Tivoli will be packed with events, performances and plenty of surprises.
Marking the start of the summer season, Easter brings colourful decorations and fun activities for younger children, with a variety of other events ranging from open–air Friday Rock to the Summer Classical festival at Tivoli Concert Hall, from Dance Class Days to professional ballet at the Pantomime Theatre. Interspersed with visiting highlights, one already announced for the season is the Bel Canto Opera performance by virtuoso soprano Sarah Coburn and renowned tenor Lawrence Brownlee. Performing at the Tivoli Concert Hall on 3 June, the programme will feature a veritable cornucopia of the roles, arias and duets performed from works such as Bellini’s The Sleepwalker and Il Pirata, Rossini’s William Tell and Le comte Ory, Rossini’s La fille du régiment.
In addition, the Tivoli Illuminations show takes place on the lake throughout the week with a fireworks display near the Concert Hall taking place on Saturdays. Weekend visitors can also be captivated by the young musicians from the Tivoli Youth Guard who play music as they parade through the Gardens.
With the Tivoli summer season ending in late September, Tivoli then closes its doors so that the Gardens can be shrouded in cobwebs, ready for the three-week Halloween season in October. With a multitude of bewitching stalls, ghostly decorations everywhere and 20,000 real pumpkins, it is a magical time to visit.
Following Halloween, Tivoli is then transformed into a snow-white winter wonderland Christmas market with everything you could think of in terms of holiday decorations, lights and classic Danish Christmas treats.
